Marine Biology Expeditions

Join one of our student marine biology conservation expeditions along South Africa's stunning eastern coastline and dive into a world of vibrant marine life, coral reefs, and cutting-edge ocean conservation efforts.

Program Focus

Ever since the discovery of the ancient Coelacanths off the east coast of South Africa in 1938, research and conservation projects are very focused on protection of the biodiversity in our coastal waters. The South African National Biodiversity Institute is custodian of many scientific projects through its Oceans and Coasts Branch.

We endeavour to take you to the terrestrial and aquatic jewels of South Africa, traveling with us to the sunny, warm coastal reserves, estuaries and diving on the coral reefs teeming with ocean life.

Program Content

While we don't publish a fixed itinerary because our expeditions are shaped by real-life situations and the needs of wildlife and weather conditions, we always ensure that the key focus areas of the expedition are covered. Our work is dynamic, but we remain committed to the core aspects of conservation that guide each expedition. It's about staying flexible to address the most pressing needs while ensuring the primary objectives are met.
Our experiences and lectures always include the following topics.

  • Wildlife Diversity and Conservation
  • Marine Biology Practices on the south-eastern seaboard of Africa
  • Mangrove and Estuary Biology/ Ecology
  • IndoPacific Humpback, Spinner and Bottlenose dolphin ecology
  • Leatherback and Loggerhead turtle ecology
  • Local Community fishing practices and conservation

Please note that the itinerary of the expedition is subject to change.

Can't pay once-off - don't worry just send us a message and we will create a custom payment plan for you. You can even start a funding campaign for family and friends to make your dream trip come true!
